I am a fan of a round dining table. I like the look of it and I like sitting at it. Conversation is easier, you can see everyone around the table, it just works.

I love the painted wall panels.
A great mix of painted and stained wood furniture.
And yes, you can use a rectangle rug under a round table. The size, scale and proportion of the space will determine the size and shape of the rug.
When it comes to a round dining table, a center base is more convenient that trying to navigate chairs around table legs.
Happy Dining.
I like the mixed chairs - it creates interest as well as variety. Some of the tables expand, giving more seating for larger gathering. I'm loving those white chairs in the second to the last picture.
